Frequently asked questions
We have the answers. Whether you're curious about our process, pricing, or past work, we’ve compiled all the details about The DataFace here.
General
What core services do you offer?
At The DataFace, we turn complex data into stories that resonate. In practice, that can mean helping clients brainstorm ideas, analyze data, design charts, and build websites. For more on what we can deliver, see this page.
What makes The DataFace’s approach to data viz unique?
We don’t just make pretty charts. We focus on crafting narratives that make data impossible to ignore. Our collaborative approach means you’re involved in the creative process from start to finish. Plus, we always use the latest tech and tools to ensure our work is cutting edge, blazing fast, and built for impact.
How we work
How long do projects take?
Most website builds take 8–12 weeks, which includes time for ideation, design, development, and revisions. But we know every project is different. If you have a tight deadline, we’ll work with you to make it happen.
Who will be working on my project?
We do most of our projects in “pods” — a small team with three core members who guide your project from start to finish.
Each pod includes:
- A project manager to handle timelines and coordination.
- A lead designer to drive the creative vision and visual execution.
- A lead developer to build and implement technical solutions.
Pods meet weekly to collaborate, troubleshoot, and keep things moving. Additional specialists may join as needed to support specific tasks.
How involved do I need to be during the project?
We believe in a collaborative approach. Expect regular check-ins, brainstorming sessions, and feedback cycles to ensure the final product matches your vision. Our goal is to keep you in the loop without making this your second job.
Can The DataFace integrate with our existing tools and platforms?
Absolutely. Whether you use WordPress, Webflow, Tableau, Snowflake, or some other tech stack, we’ll make sure our solutions fit seamlessly into your workflow. Just let us know what you’re working with, and we’ll handle the rest.
How does The DataFace handle data privacy and security?
We take security seriously. Your data stays private, protected, and in the hands of only those who need access. We follow best practices for secure data handling and are happy to align with your organization’s security standards.
How much does this cost?
Pricing depends on the scope, complexity, and timeline of your project. One-time projects start at $60K and typically cover things like websites, dashboards, and interactive reports. For ongoing data viz expertise and support, we offer plans starting at $5K/month. Reach out, and we’ll tailor a quote to fit your needs.
How do I get started?
The first step is to hop on a Discovery Call with a member of our team, so we can get a better understanding of your project and your goals. You can book time with us here.
Accessibility
Are the deliverables optimized for accessibility?
Yes! Accessibility is a fundamental part of our approach to designing and building digital projects. We use tools like Stark to audit accessibility at every stage, ensuring our work meets industry standards and is usable by everyone.
What specific accessibility checks does The DataFace do?
We run comprehensive accessibility checks on every project, including:
- Alt text for images and alternative formats for data visualizations.
- Proper HTML structure and ARIA roles for screen reader navigation.
- Readable typography with enforced minimum font sizes.
- Color contrast validation to meet AA-level standards and support color-blind users.
What accessibility standards does The DataFace follow?
We stay up-to-date with the latest accessibility guidelines, including WCAG standards. Our team has completed training through Deque University, and we continuously review best practices in internal working groups. Accessibility isn’t a checkbox for us — it’s a core part of our design philosophy.
Expertise and quality
Who has The DataFace worked with?
We’ve partnered with dozens of companies, from brands like Instacart and Yelp to mission-driven nonprofits like The Asian American Foundation and American Cancer Society. Check out our work to see the rest of our client roster.
What tools do you use for data visualization?
We love D3.js for custom interactive visualizations, but we’re flexible. Depending on the project, we also use Mapbox, Flourish, Datawrapper, Tableau, and more. We try to choose the best tool for the job, not just our favorites.
Can The DataFace handle complex data viz and analysis projects?
Definitely. We specialize in making big, messy datasets digestible. Whether it’s financial trends, policy research, or scientific data, we have the experience to turn numbers into narratives people can actually use.
How does The DataFace stay ahead of data viz trends?
We live and breathe data viz. Our team is constantly testing new tools, attending industry events, and following thought leaders to ensure our work stays cutting-edge. Innovation is part of the job.
How do you test websites and performance?
We test across browsers and devices to ensure everything looks and runs smoothly. We also use tools like Lighthouse and BrowserStack to check performance, accessibility, and SEO, so your site is fast, user-friendly, and easy to find.
What if the final product doesn’t meet our expectations?
We always want to nail our client’s vision. That’s why we build in several rounds of revisions during the design phase to make sure we’re aligned. If something still isn’t working though, we’ll listen, adjust, and find a way to make it right.
